Ukraine is Europe's second largest country and the largest country entirely within Europe. A land of broad, fertile plains, with large concentrations of heavy industry in the east, the country is home to almost 46 million people.
Ethnic Ukrainians make up approximately 78% of the total population of Ukraine, while ethnic Russians account for about 17%; Ukrainian and Russian are the principal languages.
Prior to independence, Ukraine was known as the breadbasket of the Soviet Union. Ukraine depends on Russia for gas supplies and forms an integral segment of the pipeline transit route for Russian gas to Europe – Moscow is still Ukraine’s largest trading partner.
Doing Business in Ukraine
Ukraine’s economic recovery slowed in the third quarter of 2010. Real GDP grew by 3.5 percent 2010Q3 y/y, after 5.9 percent growth in Q2. A smaller grain harvest and subdued external demand contributed to the deceleration of GDP dynamics. Read Full Article
